It was an interesting Thursday evening as FightsATW broke the news that top super lightweight contender Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz (28-3-2, 18 KOs) had hired Eddy Reynoso as his new trainer, replacing his father, Isaac Cruz Sr.

The news comes after multiple sources told FightsATW that Cruz linked up with Reynoso and that it was unlikely Cruz’s next fight would be the rematch against Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis. For weeks, multiple reports have circulated that Davis would be returning in the fall, and the rematch with Cruz was the fight on the table. With this new union, Cruz will likely want to take a fight under Reynoso before diving into either a rematch with Davis or Lamont Roach Jr.

Reynoso has been busy lately, ramping up his club shows in San Diego, California, with his latest held at SeaWorld. Reynoso also opened a gym in San Diego County large enough to accommodate more fighters from his stable at once, unlike the small space he had been renting previously. Reynoso likely got the idea from Robert Garcia, who made a similar move in 2025.

It’ll be interesting to see which direction Cruz goes after his majority draw against Roach in December. The super lightweight division has some big names, so it won’t be hard to get a big fight, but first, it’s likely a soft touch to see how things go with Reynoso. Whether this union works out remains to be seen, but Cruz is at least switching things up to see if he can regain his momentum.
