In a video on his personal Instagram account, Tyson Fury has announced his retirement from boxing. Many questions had been asked about what would be next for “The Gypsy King” but the Brit has ended all speculation with today’s post. Promoter Frank Warren has spoken to TalkSPORT and given his immediate reaction to the news.
The statement from Fury read: “Hi everybody, I’m going to make this short and sweet.”
“I’d like to announce my retirement from boxing it’s been a blast. I’ve loved every single minute of it, and I’m going to end with this. Dick Turpin wore a mask.”
“See you all on other side.”
Speaking to TalkSPORT, Warren reacted to the news: “He’s retired, I’m not going to ring him and try to debate with him.”
“I said immediately after that fight, ‘Go away with your family, consider what you have got to do.”
Reflecting on Fury’s career, he said: “‘You are a very wealthy man, you have done everything you have to do in boxing, you have had the most magnificent career – a two-time heavyweight champion.”
“And we are going to miss him, boxing is going to miss him,” said Warren.
“He has been a magnificent champion in the ring…
“I’ve got to be honest. I didn’t know what he was going to do but as I said at the start of this, no matter what he wants to do, I am with him 100 per cent.”
Fury had been linked to a highly anticipated clash with Anthony Joshua, but that dream fight is now off the table. Looking back on Fury’s career, it has been a rollercoaster ride with incredible highs and significant lows. He has dazzled both in and out of the ring, and his absence will leave a void in the world of boxing.
