Daniel Dubois (21-2, 20 KOs) is ready for Anthony Joshua (28-3, 25 KOs).
Barely days remain as he prepares to put his IBF heavyweight title against the British superstar. Dubois is coming into the fight after two consecutive wins following an unsuccessful undisputed heavyweight title run against Oleksandr Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs). As the fight date approaches, he made a rather heartfelt admission about having to resurrect his career after his loss.
“I’ve had to resurrect my career. I’ve had to come back and face everything that I might have been shying away from before. Criticism. People saying whatever they had to say. But I don’t want to go too deep into it. I’ve resurrected my career and just keep going now,” he said while talking to Sky Sports.
However, it looks like the battle is not over for Dubois despite resurrecting his career. He mentioned that he has to keep grinding through his fights to stop himself from falling back. Moreover, he also added that his fight against Joshua is important for him at the current stage of his career.
“I was down and now I’m coming back up. There’s a deeper meaning to it than just me and AJ in the ring. Everything’s on the line. Who’s got the stronger will, who’s really conquered their demons, and who’s really ready to move forward, and I believe that’s me, and I’m ready to go out there and show it,” he said. “I aim to knock him out. That’s the programme. That’s the mindset, that’s the intention coming into this fight.”
Meanwhile, Dubois’ upcoming opponent, Joshua, is confident that he has all it takes to face whatever ‘Dynamite’ throws his way. Talking to DAZN Boxing, he revealed he was ready to rumble in his upcoming fight.
“Brilliant, because it’s another project. It’s not just training for the sake of…to get fit. I’m training to beat Daniel Dubois. More so than anything it’s where I’m at mentally, I think. And I’m just — I’m ready,” he said. Joshua vs. Dubois will take place at the Wembley Stadium on September 21.
