Jai Opetaia faces Brandon Glanton on March 8 at Zuffa Boxing 04, as we preview the upcoming fight.
This fight will crown the first-ever Zuffa Boxing Cruiserweight World Champion. Opetaia’s 2025 campaign was particularly dominant. He defended his IBF and Ring titles with an 8th-round knockout of Huseyin Cinkara in his last fight in December 2025. That was followed by stoppage wins over Claudio Squeo and David Nyika. Meanwhile, Glanton secured a career-best win with a 6th-round stoppage of Marcus Browne in October 2025. That was the perfect response after his defeat to Chris Billam-Smith in April 2025.
“Undisputed. Don’t take your mind off undisputed. We’re chasing unification fights. If we don’t get one by the end of the year, I’ll be very f***ing disappointed. Undisputed. When you think of me, you think, ‘Bro, he wants to be undisputed.’ That’s it. I’m not worried about anyone else. I don’t chase names. I don’t even care if it was Zurdo or if it was Benavidez or if it was back when it was Billam-Smith. I actually respect these dudes. I think they’re great fighters. I think they’re great world champions,” Opetaia said
“There is a lot of things that are happening behind the scenes and I am a proud fighter that won the IBF fair and square, and I am happy to hold that belt. Whether we defend it [against Glanton] or not, I am not sure, but I will be defending it. Whether it’s in this one or the next one. It is my mission to become undisputed, so I don’t become undisputed without the IBF as well. [There is no danger of me being stripped] that I know of. I don’t think there is any danger,” Opetaia stated

In this fight, expect Opetaia to use his superior footwork to “circle the drain,” keeping Glanton on the end of his straight left hand. A prime example of this was seen in his wins over David Nyika and Claudio Squeo, where he maintained a high-volume output while remaining elusive. He will likely look to catch Glanton coming in with short, explosive check hooks and uppercuts, capitalizing on any technical lapses the American makes while trying to close the distance.
Glanton’s path to victory lies in his ability to cut off the ring—something he struggled with in his loss to Chris Billam-Smith but refined significantly against Browne. He will likely focus on a heavy body-assault early, aiming to “take the legs” out of the mobile Opetaia. By burying his head in Opetaia’s chest and firing hooks to the ribs, Glanton hopes to slow the Australian down by the middle rounds, eventually turning the fight into a brawl where his durability and raw power become the deciding factors.
