Jaime Munguía (42-0, 33 KOs) is ready to take another step towards reaching his goals in a super middleweight clash against John Ryder (32-6, 18 KOs).
Munguía-Ryder will headline a Jannuary 27 Golden Boy Promotions event at the Footprint Center in Phoenix, AZ. DAZN will broadcast the card around the world. Ahead of their clash on Saturday night, Munguía and Ryder spoke at a final press conference.
“This was a great camp for all of us,” said Munguía through an interpreter. “It’s gonna help me keep moving forward to achieve my goals…I know that my competitor, Ryder, is a tough fighter. He has lost [and] he has won close fights, but I’m ready. I’m ready to do this on Saturday.”
“It’s a fight I feel I’ve needed now since the Canelo defeat,” said Ryder. “To continue operating at a level that I’ve been operating at, this is the fight to kick me on…in my career.”
Since moving up from super welterweight, Munguía has been fighting opponents to aid his development. Ryder is simply another incremental step in that process. Similar to the Sergiy Derevyanchenko fight, we believe the former 154 lb champion will have difficult moments against his opponent, but he will overcome them en route to an eventual unanimous decision victory. Expect to see some differences as a result of linking up with Freddie Roach.
