Jaime Munguia dominates in Las Vegas, NV, at the T-Mobile Arena, becoming the new WBA super middleweight champion live on pay-per-view.

Munguia (46-2, 35 KOs) looked the best he has in quite some time, scoring a unanimous decision over Armando Resendiz (16-3, 11 KOs). The three judges saw it 117-111, 119-109, and 120-108 for Munguia, who becomes a two-division world champion.

In the opening round, Resendiz was the aggressor early on, landing his left jab and following it up with an overhand right. Munguia warmed up later in the round and landed clean counter left hooks and overhand rights. Munguia began to load up on his combinations toward the end of the round. Munguia picked up his offense in the second round, landing smooth four-punch combinations that began with a left hook to the body and ended with an overhand right. Resendiz was buzzed after one of Munguia’s combinations.

In the third round, Munguia continued his offensive assault. Resendiz could not figure out how to get his punches off until the middle of the round, when he was able to pressure Munguia onto the ropes. That’s where Resendiz was able to get his best work in. A phone booth fight broke out in the fourth round in the center of the ring. Munguia landed a three-punch combination, and then Resendiz fired back with a combination of his own. This went on for most of the round, but in the last 30 seconds, Resendiz landed an overhand right that sent Munguia onto the ropes, where he recovered and made it to the end of the round.

In the fifth round, Munguia varied his offense in terms of speed and power. Resendiz struggled to make the necessary adjustments, allowing Munguia to control the round. Munguia controlled the distance in the sixth round, which allowed him to land combinations without being in any real danger. In the seventh round, Munguia kept the fight in the center of the ring, which allowed him to throw his overhand right and then follow it up with a left hook to the body.

From rounds 8-12, it was all Munguia, as he was too strong and too consistent for Resendiz, who could never quite get going in this fight.
