Jaime Munguia’s Team Sends An Updated Detailed Statement Regarding Positive VADA Test Results
Rob Schumacher/The Republic / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images

It’s been a few days, and after all of the negative chatter on social media concerning super middleweight Jaime Munguia, his team sent out a press release that clarifies opinions that have been created since the May 29 VADA positive test result for PEDs (Performance Enhancing Drugs).

The 28-year-old Munguia (45-2, 35 KOs) from Tijuana, MX, released a statement shortly after the results were posted on social media claiming that he did not take any PEDs and that he would await due process to play out before further commenting on the situation. Apparently, that was not enough, as fans began to say not only things about Munguia but also about his trainer, Eddy Reynoso , who has had quite a few fighters under his watch test positive for PEDs while in his training camp. Canelo Alvarez, Luis Nery, and others have tested positive, and after this latest Munguia news, it’s hard not to think there is more going on than what people may want to believe.

The noise got so loud that Munguia’s team had to send out the below letter, which looks to remove Reynoso’s name from any wrongdoing while also looking to clarify misconceptions about Munguia that have popped up online.

Team Munguia sent out the following statement:

Following Jaime’s initial statement, we want to provide additional clarity in response to speculation and misinformation circulating about his recent VADA test.

First, it is important to reiterate: Jaime Munguía has never tested positive in over 100 anti-doping tests across his professional career until now. His record speaks for itself. He has always complied with VADA testing protocols and has built a reputation as a clean and respectful fighter who honors the integrity of the sport. We ask the boxing community to remember that context before rushing to judgment.

The test in question was one of multiple tests conducted during training camp—all others came back clean. The positive A-sample result was unexpected and deeply concerning to us.

Exogenous testosterone —like many banned substances—can enter the body in several ways, not solely through intentional use. At this moment, we do not yet know what caused the result.

We are rigorously reviewing every product Jaime has used, including supplements, pharmaceuticals, treatments, and anything else that could be relevant. This is a meticulous process, and we are committed to uncovering how this substance may have entered his system.

We also want to clarify that Eddy Reynoso serves only as Jaime’s trainer. He is not involved in Jaime’s nutrition, supplementation, or medical oversight. Likewise, no one on Canelo Álvarez’s team has any role in overseeing Jaime’s regimen or is in any way responsible for this situation. Any implication that Reynoso or anyone associated with Canelo’s team bears responsibility is entirely unfounded and unfair.

The only person responsible for overseeing Jaime’s supplements and vitamins is Marco Antonio Pérez Espinoza, who has worked with Jaime since nearly the beginning of his professional career. This is the first time Marco has ever been connected to a situation of this nature, and is fully cooperating in the current review process.

We have not been informed of the exact levels detected in the initial test, which is a critical piece of information, nor have we received the result of the B-sample, which is currently pending.

While we wait, we urge the public and the media to avoid drawing premature conclusions based on incomplete information. One thing we know for certain: Jaime is not a cheater. He did not knowingly or intentionally take anything that would violate anti-doping regulations. To suggest otherwise is not only inaccurate, but deeply unfair to a fighter who has always operated with professionalism, integrity, and respect for the sport. He has been a consistent advocate for clean boxing and has personally insisted on VADA testing throughout his career because he understands that in a contact sport, the use of performance-enhancing drugs can have serious, even dangerous, consequences.

There have been several instances across sports where athletes have been cleared after demonstrating that contamination—whether due to human error or tainted products—was the cause, and that there was no intent to cheat. We are hopeful that a thorough review will bring similar clarity to this situation.

We recognize that the responsibility for ensuring full VADA compliance ultimately lies with Jaime and our team. We take that responsibility seriously and are actively reviewing every detail with the utmost diligence, working alongside experts and relevant authorities, to understand what occurred and find the source of the substance detected.

We will share updates when we have more information. In the meantime, we ask for patience, fairness, and understanding. Jaime Munguía remains committed to clean competition and will cooperate fully with this process until it is resolved.

— Team Munguía

Cooper Flagg speaks out after his first game against LeBron James

Cooper Flagg speaks out after his first game against LeBron James

The Dallas Mavericks’ No. 1 overall pick Cooper Flagg has often been compared to LeBron James. Many believe that Cooper Flagg has the potential to one day surpass LeBron James’ NBA legacy. For what it’s worth, Flagg has already broken James’ few records, and considering he’s 18 years old, the Dallas Mavericks star has time in his favor. But it would be easier said than done, as Flagg finally got a chance to face off against James during the Mavericks’ final NBA Cup group-stage matchup against the Los Angeles Lakers. Cooper Flagg praises LeBron James The Mavericks’ nightmarish season continued as they suffered a 129-119 defeat at the hands of their Western Conference rivals. While Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves were the stars of the show, James had an off-night. Despite that, Flagg had nothing but praise for the four-time NBA champion. “It’s incredible, obviously, to see what he’s still able to do. However old he is, it’s just incredible, and I think the best thing for him is how smart he is. “He’s always one of the smartest players on the court. He played with such a high IQ, making the game easy on himself,” Flagg said after the game. “Tonight, he didn’t do anything crazy; he didn’t have to. He just kept it simple and just made the smartest plays on every possession.” Despite being 40 years old, James’ elite IQ allows him to impact the game even during off-nights, and that’s what Flagg noticed. LeBron James vs. Cooper Flagg Even before playing a single game against him, James predicted Flagg’s development would be similar to Kawhi Leonard. However, Flagg has yet to reach that level as he had 13 points, seven rebounds and 11 assists against the Lakers. He didn’t stuff the stat sheet, but it was still an excellent double-double in the loss. On the other hand, James finished the night with 13 points, five rebounds and seven assists in the 10-point win. Looking at their stats, it makes sense why Mark Cuban compared Flagg to James. But let’s not forget that the two stars on the opposite end of their careers.

Packers announce head-turning roster move one day after 2025 Lions sweep

Fresh off a Thanksgiving win on Thursday against the Detroit Lions on the road at Ford Field in Detroit, the Green Bay Packers made a notable move to reunite with kicker Lucas Havrisik. Green Bay parted ways with Havrisik just before the Lions game, but on Friday, the team announced that he’s back in the fold after getting signed to the practice squad roster. Via Green Bay’s official website: “The Green Bay Packers signed K Lucas Havrisik (HAVE-ruh-sick) to the practice squad. General Manager Brian Gutekunst announced the transaction Friday.” Lucas Havrisik insurance for now for the Packers It can be recalled that Havrisik saw action in three games in the 2025 NFL season for Green Bay in place of the then-injured Brandon McManus. In those games, the former Arizona Wildcats kicker went 4-for-4 on his field goals, including a franchise record-setting 61-yard make in Week 7’s 27-23 win in Glendale over the Arizona Cardinals. He was also 7-for-9 on extra-point attempts, with both misses happening in Week 11’s 27-20 victory against the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford. McManus is healthy and perfect in the two games since he returned to action, so there is no reason for the Packers to give his spot to someone else so Havrisik will just be insurance for now for Green Bay, which has a Week 14 date with the Chicago Bears at Lambeau Field.

Eagles' grip on NFC East suddenly in danger of slipping away amid spiral, Cowboys' resurgence

Life comes at you fast in the NFL, and the Philadelphia Eagles are finding that out right now. Now they are in a position where what looked to be a runaway lead in the NFC East is rapidly shrinking, and it could be in danger of completely slipping away after an ugly 24-15 loss to the Chicago Bears on Friday. Especially after the Dallas Cowboys won again on Thursday, continuing to narrow the gap in the division. Could the Eagles actually lose the division? The odds are still in the Eagles' favor, but given the way both teams are playing right now, nothing should be considered a given. Dallas has rapidly become one of the hottest teams in the NFL with three consecutive wins, and boasts one of the league's best offenses. The Cowboys' much-maligned defense has also been given a massive boost thanks to the trade-deadline addition of defensive lineman Quinnen Williams from the New York Jets. Dallas really started to get some belief for itself when it rallied to beat the Eagles in a massive NFC East game a week ago. It continued on Thanksgiving with another big win over the Kansas City Chiefs. With Philadelphia's loss on Friday, the gap in the division is now down to just a game-and-a-half with five weeks to go in the season. Hardly insurmountable. Are the Eagles still in the driver's seat? Sure. Would they trade positions with the Cowboys right now? No way. But that doesn't mean anybody in Philadelphia has to be feeling good about any of this given the way the Eagles are playing. Especially when it comes to the team's offense. The Eagles offense has been a struggle for much of the season, and it is getting progressively worse with each game. The passing game has been non-existent. They entered play on Friday with the 23rd-ranked passing offense in the league, and it looked worse than that against the Bears. Quarterback Jalen Hurts has struggled with consistency, the team's best wide receiver — A.J. Brown — seems perpetually miserable with his role and usage, and the play-calling has become shockingly conservative and bland. The running game that carried the Eagles to the Super Bowl a year ago has struggled to build any sort of a rhythm, and Saquon Barkley has been a shell of what he was last season. Even worse, they have almost completely eliminated any designed runs for Hurts, something that was a major X-factor for the offense in recent years. If all of that is not concerning enough, a new issue emerged on Friday — the defense that has helped keep the Eagles afloat this season and lift up the inconsistent offense was completely dominated by the Bears' running game. They were pushed around, bullied and could not get off the field on important third downs. It just looks like a team that has no confidence and nothing going for it. Conversely, the Cowboys all of a sudden look like a team that can do nothing wrong and they are suddenly breathing right down the Eagles' necks. Philadelphia still has games against the Los Angeles Chargers, Las Vegas Raiders, Buffalo Bills and Washington Commanders (twice) remaining. The Cowboys still have the Detroit Lions, Minnesota Vikings, Chargers, Commanders and New York Giants. The schedules are pretty similar. But the division might not come down to the opponents. It might come down to what the Eagles and Cowboys can do on their own. The Cowboys should be very confident right now, and the Eagles should not be.

Buffalo Bills legend reminds Keon Coleman 'you can be gone quick'

Buffalo Bills legend reminds Keon Coleman 'you can be gone quick'

A Buffalo Bills legend provided some sage advice for Keon Coleman this week. Andre Reed enjoyed a Hall of Fame career with the Bills, during which he became fellow HOFer Jim Kelly’s favorite target within the vaunted Buffalo passing game during the team’s run to four straight Super Bowls in the 1990s. Now, Reed is hoping to spread some of the knowledge he gained during his time in the NFL in order to help Coleman take the next step as a professional. During a recent podcast hit on Bleav in Bills with Adam Benigni and Sal Maiorana, Reed delved into what he believes has prevented Coleman from reaching another level of performance in his second NFL season. “There’s something not connecting in there,” said the former Bills WR. “He’s got the talent out the yin yang. He’s a physical specimen. And he’s got to believe in himself that he can do that and he can make a big difference every single play if he wants to.” Reed added, “And I think there’s a little disconnect in his brain right now where he, all this other off-field stuff and all this other stuff that is going on. And I believe that (Head Coach Sean McDermott) is trying to show him, by sitting down for two weeks, that this game can be good to you, and it can not be good to you. And you can be gone quick. And I hope he sees that. And I know he does.” Coleman began the season as one of the Bills’ top targets in the passing game, but after being late to a team meeting leading up to a Week 11 meeting with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, McDermott elected to bench the former second-round pick, his third time being disciplined in his young career, and the second time this season. He was also a healthy scratch this past week against the Houston Texans, but McDermott later revealed it was not due to discipline, but rather because the Bills were forced to prepare for Houston on a short week. Reed is hoping Coleman’s inactivity over the past two weeks sent the 22-year-old a message. “Instead of me just going after him and saying, ‘You’re not doing this, you’re not doing — I kind of just tried to level the playing field and said, ‘Hey, do the extra stuff,’” said Reed. “Go in early. Do some one-on-ones with every DB after practice for 20 minutes. Do all this stuff and show these coaches that Keon Coleman is here to make plays and help this team win.” Coleman may get another chance to prove himself this week against the Pittsburgh Steelers, as the Bills are dealing with a list of injuries at the WR position. Curtis Samuel was placed on Injured Reserve on Saturday due to knee and elbow injuries, and Joshua Palmer missed time throughout the week due to an ankle injury and is questionable to play on Sunday. If he is indeed provided with a jersey on game day for the first time in three weeks, it would behoove Coleman to take Reed’s advice, keep his head down, do all the right things and continue to work himself back into the good graces of the coaching staff. Otherwise, he could be looking at a change of scenery this offseason.
