A super fight between global star Jake Paul and three-division world champion Gervonta Davis almost happened, and still can.
The Problem Child, who’s preparing for a clash against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. On June 28, claimed he was just inches away from facing the current WBA Lightweight World Champion. However, Davis’ draw with Lamont Roach Jr. derailed their plans, for now.
If Davis won, his next opponent might have been Paul.
“That was on the one yard as well, but he has to rematch Lamont Roach,” Paul said. “He wants to get that back. Then we will be back in discussions with Mr. Gervonta.”

Round 13 between Davis and Roach Jr. is slated to take place on August 16 in Las Vegas, just five months after their controversial first match.
After getting hit with a jab during the ninth round, Davis took a knee and subsequently walked to his corner to wipe his face.
Tank claims he took a knee because grease from his hair, which he had gotten done before the fight, got into his eyes, causing it to burn. The referee, Steve Willis, did not rule it a knockdown, which heavily impacted the scoring of the contest.
Although it’s a highly anticipated rematch, an unfazed Paul recognizes the chaos that comes with the business side of boxing.
“This is the nature of boxing, you have massive fights on the one yard line and things just fall through,” Paul said.
Paul didn’t mince words when asked about Davis, sharing that he’s never thought very highly of the lightweight king.
“I never really thought tank was that good, it just took the right fighter to pick him apart to be honest," Paul added. "Someone who had high activity and wasn’t afraid of his power. So, I always saw so many holes in his game, to me it wasn't that surprising that someone finally gave him some good work.”
Theoretically, the fight is envisioned as a 10-rounder, with three-minute rounds and no restrictions. Due to the weight disparity between the two athletes, it wouldn’t be professionally sanctioned, meaning it would be an exhibition.
After defeating Mike Tyson in front of 65 million live viewers, Paul is looking to catapult himself into matchups with current world champions and it’s extremely compelling.
