Jaron Ennis vs Eimantas Stanionis (15-0, 9 KOs) will headline a Matchroom Boxing card at the Boardwalk Hall, Atlantic City on April 12. The entire card will be shown live on DAZN in over 200 countries. At the pre-fight press conference, Ennis and Stanionis spoke with confidence, while “Boots” revealed his desire to enhance his legacy.
This welterweight unification fight between Ennis and Stanionis should act as a springboard for the winner to fight for the remaining belts. The other titles are held by Mario Barrios (WBC) and Brian Norman Jr (WBO).
Ennis is exceptional at controlling the tempo of fights – combined with his hand speed and power make him the deserved favourite.
Stanionis is not to be overlooked. He’s extremely accurate and wastes very little. He will need to force the pace and unsettle “Boots.”
At the pre-fight presser, “Boots” spoke about the upcoming challenge of Stanionis, but also discussed his desire for legacy: “I want to be the standard of the welterweight division and be with those top guys like Floyd Mayweather and Sugar Ray Leonard,” Ennis said.
“Not too many people can say they have fought for the Ring Magazine and division titles but on Saturday night I will, and I will be stamping my legacy right there. We’re going to show the world why I’m the best. We‘re going to put on a show for sure.”
Looking ahead to fight night, Ennis said: “I’m not going to look for a knockout, but it’s coming. We’re going to have fun. We’re going to show out. He said all gas, no breaks. He’s going to run right into a rock.”
