Floyd Mayweather (50-0, 27 KOs) might fight an influencer soon, and no, it is not Jake Paul (11-1, 7 KOs).
The crown prince of boxing was last seen in a rematch against Mafia scion John Gotti III at Arena CDMX in Mexico City on August 24. While the fight went through the full eight rounds, no winner was declared. Fans have since pondered whether ‘Money’ Mayweather will enter the ring again or announce his retirement. Mayweather Jr’s uncle, Jeff Mayweather, might just have an update for fans.
The older Mayweather was in an interview with Fred Talks Fighting. In conversation, he seemed doubtful of his nephew’s potential return to the boxing ring. “I have no idea. I mean, like I said, I don’t necessarily see for it. We don’t really get a chance to talk very much and so I don’t really know what’s going on with him,” he said. “I haven’t heard about him talking about doing any more exhibitions.”
As one of the wealthiest athletes in the world, Mayweather has a host of investments and business ventures that undoubtedly keep him busy. A factor that his uncle believes will keep him from the ring unless the offer is financially lucrative.
However, when asked about YouTuber and boxer KSI, Mayweather nodded about the feasibility, calling it “a fight that possibly could happen.” But it certainly is a race against time. “Somebody’s gonna have to start making some noise for the fight to happen because I think the longer Floyd waits, I think that he’s going to just say I’m finally retired,” he said.
Meanwhile, life has not been a bed of roses recently for the champ. Protests emerged outside Mayweather’s Los Angeles gym with employees accusing him of ‘modern-day slavery’. With allegations of unpaid wages, Mayweather and his ‘Money Team’ are also facing accusations of bankruptcy.
“Even if you work for a different company and you ain’t getting paid, you’re scared to show up and say something because you know how businesses do. They silence you and they fire you,” an employee said. This accusation comes in the wake of the many high-profile purchases that Mayweather has made over the past few months. Employees allege California Labor Code 210 violations, which mandates late wages penalties.
