Former undisputed junior middleweight champion Jermell Charlo (35-2-1, 19 KOs) returned to social media with a video on Saturday where he called out Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis and undisputed super middleweight champion Terence Crawford .
In the video, from his verified social media account, Charlo said “I want all the smoke! I want the smoke with Crawford… The best fight with ‘Boots’ (Ennis) would be me. The best fight with Crawford would be me!”
Charlo spoke about how he felt boxing has changed since his fight with Canelo Alvarez in September 2023. After his fight with Canelo, Charlo said he dealt with death in the family and decided to dedicate his time with his family. In other moments during the 11-minute video, Charlo addressed rumor of having no issue with Errol Spence Jr. by saying he doesn’t have one and that he is “PBC down.” Also, contrary to what is being said on social media, he’s never received a “real contract from Eddie Hearn.”
It’s been an interesting few weeks for Charlo who has reappeared on social media two years removed from his fight with Canelo. He’s getting the itch again to return to the ring but is looking at only big fights which means one with Ennis or an undisputed fight against Crawford.
Will we see Charlo return in 2026? Only time will tell but if somehow, they can make a fight with Ennis or Crawford, that would attract the attention of hardcore fans and casuals even if it’s been more than two years since Charlo has stepped into the ring.
