Jermell Charlo Wants ‘$10 Million More’ For Ennis Or Crawford

The former undisputed champion, Jermell Charlo, has demanded “$10 million more” to face Jaron Ennis or Terence Crawford

Charlo’s last boxing appearance was in 2023, when he jumped up two weight classes from 154 pounds to take on Canelo Alvarez for his then Undisputed Super Middleweight Title. Charlo looked a shadow of himself, as the extra weight did not help his cause. He was dropped and hardly threatened Canelo as he lost a one-sided unanimous decision. Naturally, there have been questions over his future. Reports indicate he earned $20 million for the Canelo fight, the biggest payday of his career.

It is tough to see Charlo getting back down to 154 at this stage of his career, as he is 35. However, he has hinted at fights with Errol Spence Jr., Sebastian Fundora and Vergil Ortiz. Now, Ennis and Crawford are the latest names. Ennis made his debut at 154 this month, stopping Uisma Lima in the first-round. Meanwhile, Crawford beat Canelo at 168 to become undisputed in September. Charlo would be Ennis’ biggest name on his resume, even if he doesn’t have a belt. However, it’s tough to see Crawford taking this fight, as he is chasing legacy at this stage of his career. Charlo’s wishes were clear.

Charlo Reacts

“10 million more, though. Yeah, add a little bit more. I think I think ‘Boots’ is a great fight, though. I’ll give ‘Boots’ all the problems in the world. He’s a great fighter, but I give him all the problems in the world; I think Styles make fights. ‘Boots’ come get it, Boots That’,” Charlo said

While Charlo is throwing Crawford and Ennis, his most realistic comeback options lie closer to his former junior middleweight division. A high-profile, title-contending fight could be arranged against WBC Junior Middleweight Champion Sebastian Fundora, offering Charlo a direct path to reclaim a major belt. Fundora was on course to face Keith Thurman this month. However, Fundora pulled out with an injury. There is no guarantee that a Thurman fight goes ahead, as Keith is also known for his inactivity due to injuries.

Two other lucrative options are former opponents and gym-mates. A showdown with WBC interim 154-pound champion Vergil Ortiz Jr. would pit Charlo against a young, powerful contender, while a deeply personal, all-Texas grudge match with Errol Spence Jr. would guarantee a massive pay-per-view event. Either way, Charlo has plenty to consider.
