Joe Joyce (16-3, 15 KO) and Filip Hrgović (17-1, 14 KOs) will soon face each other in a 10-round heavyweight clash.
Their bout headlines a Queensberry Promotions card at the Co-op Live in Manchester, England. Boxing fans around the world can catch the action live on DAZN. Joyce was set to face Dillian Whyte. However, an injury to “The Body Snatcher” resulted in Hrgović stepping up instead.
Ahead of their April 5 fight, Joyce and Hrgović spoke at a press conference. Below is some of what they had to say.
“It’s a good fight, good entertainment, good to be here and I expect a great performance,” said Joyce. “It is good to share the ring with Hrgović again. We had a good scrap last time about 12 years ago. The same result is going to happen, I’mgoing to win and then get elevated back up to the top of the sport. I am really excited to be here again, there is a lot of excitement here and it is going to be a great night of boxing.”
“It was short notice,” said Hrgović. “I had just a few weeks, but like I said, I was already in a good shape. That’s why I accepted this fight and I think it’s a good opportunity for me and this win, hopefully on Saturday, brings me back to the top and [it is] good to be part of this. Thank you for opportunity. Thanks to Queensberry, thanks to DAZN and looking forward to win on Saturday, to knock him out and get back to the top. That’s the plan.”
Joyce’s performances in his last four fights have not been great. Against Zhilei Zhang, he lost via technical knockout after sustaining significant damage to his right eye. In their rematch, he was brutally stopped in just three rounds. A tenth roundknockout of Kash Ali was followed by a unanimous decision loss to Derek Chisora. Hrgović should be able to capitalize on the opportunity given – especially since Joyce has not been in good form lately. Expect the Croat to win via stoppage in the late rounds.
