Anthony Joshua has officially been discharged from Duchess International Hospital in Lagos, beginning a difficult recovery process following a tragic car accident in Nigeria.

The former unified heavyweight champion was held under medical observation for 48 hours after the SUV he was traveling in struck a stationary truck on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. While hospital officials and local authorities have cleared the 36-year-old as fit with only minor physical injuries, the devastating nature of the crash has left the timeline for his return to the ring completely uncertain.

The accident resulted in the heartbreaking deaths of two vital members of Joshua’s inner circle. Longtime personal trainer Latif Ayodele and strength and conditioning coach Sina Ghami were both pronounced dead at the scene of the collision. These men were not just employees but foundational figures in Joshua’s career and personal life, having been by his side through his rise to the top of the heavyweight division.

Immediately following his release on Wednesday evening, a somber Joshua was joined by his mother to visit a local funeral home. The visit allowed the former champion to pay his final respects to Ayodele and Ghami before their bodies are prepared for the journey home. Several members from the boxing community have come out to send Joshua some warm words.
