Katie Taylor brought her legendary career to a close with a unanimous decision win over Flora Pili on Saturday night at a sold-out Croke Park in Dublin, capping the "Once Upon a Time" card in front of more than 80,000 fans.
Taylor retained her IBF and WBO light welterweight titles and added the vacant WBC belt with the win over Pili (12-1, 2 KOs), the IBO champion from France.
Taylor controlled the early rounds with her jab, speed and footwork, keeping Pili at range and picking her spots. Pili found some success in the third, making it a genuinely competitive stretch, but Taylor settled back into her rhythm and continued landing the cleaner, more effective shots as the fight wore on. The pace picked up noticeably in round seven, with Taylor getting the better of increasingly heated exchanges.
Pili switched to a southpaw stance in the ninth round and stayed there through the finish, looking to change the picture late. Taylor adjusted accordingly, closing out the final round strong and sealing the win.
