Confusion swirls around the status of the highly anticipated bout between Gervonta "Tank" Davis and Lamont Roach Jr. after Davis took to Instagram on Monday, claiming "The fight is (expletive) cancel.”
Davis’ cryptic post, which lacked further context, was followed by Roach Jr.’s own social media response.
“The (expletive) ya keep asking me for?" Roach Jr. wrote. "He said that (expletive) not me. I’m locked in, ain’t (expletive) changed. March 1st Brooklyn #ANDNEW.”
A few days later we have finally gotten to hear from the other side with Lamont Roach Sr. issuing an update on where things stand regarding his son's scheduled fight against Davis.
Roach Sr., who is also his son's trainer, told BoxingScene on Christmas Eve they have heard nothing about a cancellation and are continuing preparations for the March 1 clash at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
“We haven’t heard anything. As far as I am concerned, the fight is still on," Lamont Sr. said. ”Nothing has changed on our end.”
Despite the uncertainty, the event’s promoter, PBC, has not confirmed any changes, and tickets for the fight remain available.
Meanwhile, Leonard Ellerbe, former CEO of Mayweather Promotions and still close to Davis, dismissed the rumors of a cancelation on Friday, taking to X and writing, “See you in NY!”

Roach Jr. holds a 25–1-1 record and is the reigning WBA super featherweight champion. He earned the title in November 2023 with a split-decision victory over Hector Luis Garcia and defended it with an eighth-round stoppage of Feargal McCrory in June.
Davis boasts an undefeated 30–0 record with 28 knockouts. He was elevated to full WBA lightweight champion in late 2023 after Devin Haney vacated the title. He successfully defended the belt in June, stopping previously undefeated lightweight Frank Martin in the eighth round.
The bout between Roach Jr. and Davis was originally scheduled for Dec. 14 in Houston but was postponed to March due to scheduling conflicts.
