Boxing fans hoping for a legendary Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua fight will be disappointed. Fury recently said he is “in no rush” to return and plans on staying retired. The “Gypsy King” announced his retirement in January after his second loss to Oleksandr Usyk. It was not the first time Fury has retired. That led fans of the sport to believe he would return for a very profitable event with Joshua.

Potential Comeback

The former heavyweight champion has teased the idea of a comeback multiple times. This included a video he posted of himself in the gym with trainer SugarHill Steward and said, “You know what’s coming.” Talks about a fight with Anthony Joshua in the UK have been thought of as lucrative and necessary since both men are British.

In an Instagram post, Fury said,

“I hear a lot of talk of the Gypsy King returning to boxing. What would I return for? More boxing belts? I’ve won 22 of them… But I’m happy, I’m happy, content with what I have achieved, what I’ve accomplished. I’ve been around the world and back again.

“And this is what retirement looks like for the Gypsy King. Not too shabby. I’m in no rush at all to come back [to] boxing and get my face punched in. For what? What would I return for? I ask that question. So here we are. I’m retired and I’m staying retired. I’ve got nothing to prove to anybody and nothing to return for.”

Thoughts

It looks like Fury is enjoying retirement, but we have seen many fighters return to the ring if the money is right. Joshua lost his last fight via 5th-round knockout against Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium in London in September. No announcement has been made about any possible upcoming fights.

Boxing fans can still look forward to Manny Pacquiao’s return vs. Mario Barrios on July 19 for the WBC welterweight title, Jake Paul vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on June 18, and the Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford super fight in September.
