The rivalry between Liam Smith and Chris Eubank Jr. may be destined for a third bout, as Smith has publicly called for a trilogy bout.
The former WBO Junior Middleweight World Champion expressed his readiness to settle the score “at any weight,” emphasizing that their current 1–1 stalemate leaves unfinished business. Smith won the first fight when he delivered a fourth-round knockout, only for Eubank to respond with a tenth-round stoppage of his own in the rematch.
After that fight, the two fighters have not been in the best form. Eubank suffered a unanimous decision defeat to Conor Benn in November 2025. Following that loss, promoter Ben Shalom confirmed that Eubank was undergoing medical rehabilitation for an undisclosed illness and was targeting a move up to super-middleweight (168 lbs) for his return in the summer of 2026.
“He’s had a lot of stuff to do medically to really try and flush and get rid of what he’s been dealing with. So once that’s done he will be back, probably at 168. But there was an underlying issue that he had to get rid of and I think we all knew that, but hopefully looking forward to him being back in the middle of the year,” Shalom said
Smith is also looking to rebound after a loss to Aaron McKenna in April 2025. Acknowledging that the 160-pound middleweight limit has become a physical “killer,” Smith views a jump in weight as the only viable path forward. While Eubank has been linked to potential world title shots in the 168-pound division, the pull of a high-draw domestic fight remains strong.
“Eubank and Conor Benn’s not having a trilogy, I believe that Eubank has gone to 168lbs. I’ll fight him at 168lbs if he wants. I think I would fight him at any weight to be honest with you. As long as I was fit and ready, I would fight him at any weight,” Smith said
