Lomachenko Vs. Kambosos Predictions – ‘Stoppage In 7 Or 8’

Vasiliy Lomachenko and George Kambosos Jr. face off this weekend to gain the right to become the IBF Lightweight Champion. 

The belt is vacant after Devin Haney vacated to move up to 140. Loma is the favorite, having won titles in three weight classes. But questions remain over whether he has recovered from his last fight. He lost a unanimous decision to Haney, preventing him from becoming undisputed at 135. The consensus in the boxing community was that Loma had been ‘robbed.’ The rematch never happened, leaving Loma in tears. The boxer took the rest of 2023 off to recover mentally. He has admitted that retirement is on his mind. 

Loma vs Kambosos

Kambosos has said he senses a lack of motivation coming from Loma. The Australian has plenty to prove, with doubts about his form. Since defeating Teofimo Lopez in 2021, Kambosos has looked poor. He lost twice to Haney, while his last fight was a questionable majority decision win over Maxi Hughes. The winner will put themselves in a position to secure a unification fight.

This could be against Gervonta Davis, the WBA champion, and the WBC champion Shakur Stevenson. A fight with Davis will generate a big payday while facing Stevenson will present a tough boxing bout. The fighters met for a face-off at their final presser, which lasted over three minutes. Neither fighter backed down. While security intervened a little, there was no altercation, as both men were focused on the task ahead. Here are the predictions for the fight.

“Loma is still a threat! I think he still has enough to win this fight. Loma struggled against a much bigger Teofimo and taller, longer Haney, still both fights were very close! Against Kambosos he won’t have that much to overcome physically, but I like Kambosos by close decision. It’ll be extremely hard to get decision down under. Kambosos by decision,” Sergio Mora former world champion 

“Loma is a well preserved veteran and knows all the tricks of the trade. He will KO a very prideful Kambosos in his home country in Round 9,” Rual Maquez former world champion 

“It’s tough to pick with confidence either way because we’ve seen so little of Loma as of late but assuming he continues with the same focus and dedication and assuming that his skills have been preserved I would see him winning a pretty clear unanimous decision from Kambosos. Kambosos is a very good fighter but Loma when he is right is something special,” John Scully trainer

“I see Loma gathering data in the first two or three rounds and from that point really starting to dominate the fight. I think Kambosos has the heart of a champion and he’s going to try to press and give his best effort but it’s not gonna be enough. [And] I think he’s going to get very frustrated and run into a lot of punches,” Bob Santos trainer

“Kambosos will have to be more aggressive and get his shots off faster than he usually does. If he can do this he will be able to counter Lomachenko without any problems. Loma has tremendous hand and foot speed and will get inside quickly behind his right southpaw jabs,” Wayne McCullough
