Since leaving the Philippine political arena and coming out of retirement to commit himself to full-time boxing competition, Manny Pacquiao has firmly returned to the world where he built his legendary status.

The former eight-division world champion, who will turn 47 years old in a few days, is actively plotting his next move after his return to the ring resulted in a controversial draw against WBC champion Mario Barrios.

The legend appeared at the IBA Global Forum in Dubai to speak on a panel alongside fellow boxers Sonny Edwards and Deontay Wilder. After the panel, Pacquiao spoke to multiple reporters to finally address the biggest questions fans have been asking.

The media scrum was recorded and posted by the FightHype YouTube channel.

Jake Paul vs. Anthony Joshua Prediction

Pacquiao did not hesitate when asked for his prediction on the upcoming heavyweight clash between social media star-turned-boxer Jake Paul and former unified world champion Anthony Joshua

He immediately answered with one word, saying, "Joshua."

He then elaborated briefly on Paul's chances in the fight, simply saying, "He has to train hard."

This brief comment reflects the prevailing sentiment in boxing circles about the vast experiential gap between Joshua, an elite and lifelong heavyweight, and Paul, a popular but still developing newcomer.

His prediction also reflects the fight's current betting odds across dozens of sports books, all of which have Joshua as the heavy favorite.

Mike Tyson vs. Floyd Mayweather Prediction

Pacquiao was also asked to break down the upcoming exhibition fight between Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather Jr., which was announced back in September and is expected to be booked for the spring of 2026.

His answer, while brief, was insightful and highlighted the core dynamic of any fight.

He told reporters, "It depends, it depends. If Mike Tyson will train hard, then just one punch only," Pacquiao said.

While Tyson's fight-ending power has always been known as the great equalizer, his advanced age, as well as Mayweather's legendary defensive skill, could negate it.

This possibility was made clear during Tyson's exhibition match with Paul, which resulted in a unanimous decision in favor of the latter. Many casual fans online expressed their belief that the fight was staged, but it was still clear to boxing fans that Tyson's abilities had dimmed due to his advanced age.

Comeback Opponents

On the topic of Mayweather, Pacquiao gave another update on their long-discussed potential rematch.

While details remain under wraps, Pacquiao previously confirmed that negotiations for the dream rematch were underway.

Now, he has confirmed that negotiations are still ongoing, stating, “We’re waiting. We'll see, we'll see... We'll announce that next year.”

While the potential blockbuster fight is being targeted for 2026, he hinted that a fight with current WBA light welterweight champion Rolando "Rolly" Romero is also still in the mix.

Boxing as a Vehicle for Good

Amidst the talk of fights and predictions, Pacquiao circled back to the philanthropic mission that now guides much of his life.

He framed his worldview, saying, "We’re just passing by in this world… do the right thing… help other people."

During the IBA panel, Pacquiao also gave insight into how the aspects of mental discipline and toughness he learned through the sport of boxing translate to his public service. He also made a brief comment on his view of corruption in Philippine politics, which he believes is rampant.

He told the audience, “I came from a very poor situation in life. The reason I entered politics was because I wanted to serve people. I want to punish those who take advantage of the people. Those who are corrupt politicians. I’m not saying that all of them are corrupt, but a lot of them are.”

This philosophy now directly informs his approach to boxing. His involvement in the sport, whether through promotions, supporting his son’s pro career, or his own fights, are a platform to generate resources and attention to his charitable projects, like building homes, providing healthcare, and supporting communities in the Philippines.

Pacquiao’s interview reignited excitement around his next move, placing him back at the center of boxing conversations. Whether it's the lucrative spectacle of a Mayweather rematch, a dangerous title challenge against Rolly Romero, or using his name to uplift others, "PacMan" is clearly not finished writing the final chapters of his unique story.
