One of the biggest pay-per-view attractions of his generation, Manny Pacquiao’s first spot atop a box office headliner could not have ended in worse circumstances.

Making his first venture to North American soil at the turn of the century, Filipino favorite Manny Pacquiao debuted on the same card as future opponent Oscar De La Hoya.

And grabbing attention from the get-go, just a year later Pacquiao would share the billing with another future foe, Floyd Mayweather.

His third outing in the States would see Pacquiao also share a card with Mike Tyson for the one and only time in his career, before he soon earned his status as a pay-per-view headliner — ending in disastrous circumstances, however.

Manny Pacquiao’s calamitous PPV debut with Erik Morales

Thrice sharing the ring with Mexican star Erik Morales during his career, Pacquiao turned in one of the best trilogies of all time against the four-division world champion.

However, in the first of those matchups, Pacquiao came unstuck in the most disastrous fashion with the global audience watching on.

Making his PPV headliner bow, Pacquiao had already tangled with the likes of historic foe Juan Manuel Marquez, as well as Marco Antonio Barrera.

However, under the banner of HBO, Pacquiao’s undefeated run on US soil came to a shuddering halt, with Morales upsetting the odds with a lopsided unanimous decision win.

Helped in no small part to a fifth-round incident, an accidental clash of heads opened a sizable cut above ‘Pacman’s’ right eye, with blood leaking from then on out.

Switching to southpaw in a heralded final round, Morales’ white shorts were splattered red with Pacquiao’s blood before pulling off a spectacular upset win over the boxing icon.

Manny Pacquiao’s rematch with Floyd Mayweather

Sharing the ring with Michigan maestro Mayweather back in 2015, Pacquiao suffered a unanimous decision loss to the undefeated megastar in an overdue pairing.

However, the duo seems lined up to duke it out again — potentially as soon as April, with an inaugural championship potentially up for grabs.

Linked with numerous returns to the ring, including a career-first trip to Belfast, Pacquiao confirmed he is also locked in talks to tackle a recently retired former pound-for-pound pacesetter.
