Michael Gomez Jr. Issues Statement on Reece Bellotti Fight Cancellation

On October 26 at the Co-op Live Arena, Manchester, on the Jack Catterall vs. Regis Prograis undercard, Michael Gomez Jr. (21-1, 6 KOs) was due to face Reece Bellotti (19-5, 14 KOs). On the live DAZN broadcast, it was announced before the main event that Reece Bellotti vs. Michael Gomez Jnr. was cancelled due to Gomez Jr. being taken ill in the dressing room. In the immediate aftermath, Reece Belotti made his feelings known: “He’s swallowed it,” said Bellotti.

Gomez Jr. Addresses Fans After Fight Cancellation

Many have been waiting for the Gomez Jnr response and the Lancashire native has now released a statement via his personal Instagram account: “Now that things have settled down, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude to some key people.

First, I want to thank my manager, @maree_boxing, and my trainer, @mikejennings1  @dave_jennings01 I didn’t want them to call the doctor that night, but I’m so grateful they did. They truly prioritize the boxers’ well-being above everything. 

The doctors that took care of me were incredible. We are lucky that the BBBofC have these things in place and they were able to find out so quickly that I had an infection.”
