Mike Perry wants a rematch with Jake Paul — this time under MMA rules — and he plans to earn it by defeating Nate Diaz on May 16.

The fight takes place on the Most Valuable Promotions and Netflix card headlined by Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano, the platform’s first MMA event. It marks Perry’s first appearance under MMA rules in five years, a significant shift from the bare-knuckle circuit where he built his post-UFC reputation.

The backdrop to the bout is a rivalry that has taken several turns. Paul defeated Perry in a boxing match in July 2024, but “Platinum” has not let go of the idea of meeting him again on different terms.

Perry Reacts

“I’ve continued to work hard before getting the Jake Paul fight. Working hard got me the Jake Paul fight. I worked hard for the Jake Paul fight and I had some setbacks. I continued to work hard, got back in the winner’s circle, performed again, and now we’re here fighting on MVP again,” Perry

Diaz lost to Paul in the boxing ring in August 2023 and has since been angling for a rematch under MMA rules. Paul has already acknowledged that interest, stating that a Diaz MMA fight could happen if the Stockton native gets past Perry on May 16. Perry is targeting Paul directly and is using the Diaz fight to prove the MMA tools are still there after years away from the sport.

“Jake has mentioned that he’d be interested in fighting Nate if Nate was able to be successful. So I’m looking to go out May 16th, give it everything I’ve got, dominate, and see if Jake goes running scared or if he wants to fight an MMA fight. Let’s do it,” Perry stated
