Itauma (20-0, 10 KOs) is set to face his toughest opponent yet when he headlines the Esports World Cup card in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on August 16. Standing opposite will be 37-year-old former world title challenger Dillian Whyte, a seasoned campaigner who’s shared the ring with the likes of Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury, and Alexander Povetkin.
Despite his youth, Itauma has been making waves. He’s currently ranked No. 1 by the WBO, No. 2 by the WBA, No. 6 by the IBF, and No. 10 by the WBC a rare feat for someone just two years into his professional career. His first 12 bouts have lasted a combined 25 rounds, showcasing both explosive power and efficiency.
Yet Warren, son of veteran promoter Frank Warre n, insists it’s not just the physical tools that set Itauma apart.
“Moses can be the flag bearer for British sport internationally,” Warren told The Ring. “Not just as a boxer, but I think he can be a cultural icon internationally. When you think about people like Tiger Woods or LeBron James he is one of those guys.”
to be able to be quantified as a young prodigy, If he cannot pull that type of feat off, then prematurely will be all for nothing. That is really high praise for a young rising star, but also a lot of pressure as well. But his day is coming soon, and he’ll have an opportunity to live up to those type of expectations.
