Muhammad “The Falcon” Waseem continued his march up the WBA with a unanimous decision victory against Jakrawut Majungoen last night at the MISA Cannt in Lahore, Pakistan.

Waseem (15-2, 10 KOs) defended his WBA Gold bantamweight title to mark the end of a four day boxing extravaganza as part of the WBA Peace Convention promoted by Manny Pacquiao Promotions, Falcon Sporting Promotions, Roy Jones Jr Boxing and GloveBoxx.

To the shock of the Pakistani crowd Manjungeon (50-8-2, 29 KOs) claimed a sensational first round knockdown, landing a perfectly executed left hook to chin sending Waseem on his back. The Falcon was up on his feet quickly, but lost his balance to take a knee for the eight count. He would hang to see to bell under heavy fire from Majungoen.

Remarkably Waseem recovered to dig in drag Majungoen into a dog fight in the second and third rounds, arguably taking both sessions. A left hook-right uppercut combination had the crowd on their feet inside the opening minute of the second. Waseem took further control in the fourth ending the round with a big right hand flush on the chin.

However, Waseem faced another knockdown in the fifth. After starting another round strongly, most notably with a left-right combination on the ropes, he hit the canvas from a left hook after pressing for the finish himself. However, Majungoen remained dangerous throughout the middle rounds, countering well and finding moments to test Waseem’s chin again. The Thai veteran’s experience showed as he refused to fade, firing back with hooks and body shots that kept the contest competitive.

Waseem’s superior footwork and cleaner combinations told the story down the stretch. In the championship rounds he dictated the pace, outjabbing Majungoen and repeatedly tagging him with straight rights. By the final bell, The Falcon had restored a large amount of control.

The judges scored the bout 115-110, 114-11 and 114-11, sealing a hard-fought unanimous-decision win and ensuring Waseem’s climb toward another world-title opportunity remains firmly on track.
