Natasha Jonas (16-2-1, 9 KOs) and Lauren Price (8-0, 2 KOs) will soon face each other in a welterweight unification.
Their bout headlines a BOXXER card at the Royal Albert Hall in London, England. Boxing fans in the United Kingdom can catch the action live on Sky Sports. Broadcasters have not been determined for the rest of the world as this article is published.
Both boxers held a press conference ahead of their March 7 fight. Below is some of what they said.
“It is just another fight,” said Jonas. “I’m not trying to put pressure on meself and build it up into anything. When we get in the ring, it’s just me vs. Lauren [Price]. None of the other noise matters and the best woman will win. That’s it.”
“A win for Lauren means I’m the best win on her record. A win for me, I don’t believe it means the same thing.”
“I think it’s always, like I say, once you get in the ring it’s you vs. the other person. But there’s a little bit more behind this one. There’s a little bit that I want to prove meself right.”
“Obviously it’s a great fight and I’m proud to be part of it,” said Price. “I’m looking forward to it. I’m excited. I’m in a great place, mentally and physically. Obviously, the outside noise is irrelevant. When that bell goes on Friday there’s two of us in there and may the best woman win.”
“I’ve had a good camp, but I think the biggest thing in this game is staying cool, calm, collected, staying composed. And if that [falling behind on the scorecards, getting cut, etc.] happens, we go again. I’ve got a great team in me. Go back to the corner, take instructions and whatever. But I believe in myself. I know how good I am and I believe I’ll win this fight andthat’s it.”
Both women come with a wealth of boxing experience. Their fight is one of the best the division has to offer. This should be a close, intriguing fight from start to finish. Between the two, however, it does feel like Price has that little bit extra that should help her win. Expect her to win this via a unanimous decision.
