Junior middleweight prospect Nikita Tszyu was involved in a car accident over the weekend and suffered “minor injuries,” according to his promoter, No Limit Boxing.
The Australian promotion company sent out a press release to give fans of Tszyu (11-0, 9 KOs) an update on the 27-year-old prospect after this weekend’s incident.
“Nikita Tszyu was involved in a car accident over the weekend when the vehicle he was traveling in was struck at an intersection. He sustained minor injuries and is now recovering at home with his family.
“A decision regarding any return to ring in 2025 will be made in the coming weeks.”
Tszyu has been making a name for himself in Australia, while his brother, Tim Tszyu, has been taking the biggest fights available in the U.S. In 2023, Nikita gloved up four times, but the following year, he reduced the number of fights in half. This year, Nikita fought in August and scored a first-round knockout over Luizim Ismaili, and all signs pointed towards another fight before the end of the year.
Now, with this recent news, even if the decision hasn’t been finalized, we likely won’t see Nikita until the first quarter of 2026. At this point in his career, there isn’t any rush to risk returning to the ring too early. It’ll be interesting to see how next year goes for Nikita and whether he’ll make his U.S. debut.
