Organising the rematch between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao has not been straightforward.

After years of build-up, the sequel to their record-breaking first bout was officially scheduled for September 19, this time streaming on Netflix.

The venue for the fight will be the Sphere in Las Vegas, a new location compared to their previous clash at MGM Grand Garden Arena back in 2015.

There has also been some tension over certain details of the fight. According to one side, Mayweather and Pacquiao haven’t seen eye to eye on some aspects of how it should be staged.

On April 1, Manny Pacquiao’s camp pushed back against Floyd Mayweather’s claims that the venue for their rematch hadn’t been finalised and that the bout was an exhibition.

Jas Mathur, CEO of Manny Pacquiao Promotions, told ESPN that not only is the fight still on, but Mayweather’s remarks are a clear breach of contract.

“There is no termination of any sort, and he has signed for a professional fight,” Mathur said. “Floyd Mayweather is officially in breach of his contract. He’s been in a breach since the day he went out and said what he said on Saturday and he’s officially in a breach as of yesterday.”

He added that Mayweather’s side still wants the bout to be an exhibition and confirmed that a site visit with both camps and Netflix at Sphere had already taken place.

Mathur also claimed that ‘Money’ has already drawn an advance from his purse for the rematch following speculation from figures like Joe Rogan about potential financial issues being behind his return.

The CEO also mentioned Mayweather’s upcoming exhibition with Mike Zambidis in June, calling it another violation of their agreement.

“We put this together to put on something that the fans would love and would be a massive sports event,” Mathur told ESPN. “We wanted to do something that makes history and he [Mayweather] wants to come around and try to change terms last minute because he thinks he can. No, he can’t. Not happening.”
