Katie Taylor faces Amanda Serrano on July 11 in their Undisputed Junior Welterweight Clash, as boxing insiders gave their predictions.
Taylor is looking to secure a clean sweep over Serrano, having won their first two encounters. The 2022 split decision win meant she retained her Undisputed Lightweight Championship Title. The 2024 unanimous decision win on the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson card enabled Taylor to keep her Undisputed Junior Welterweight Championship Title. Serrano was vocal about Taylor’s use of headbutts, something which will be a source of concern in the trilogy. Serrano has maintained that she felt she had done enough to win the last fight, while Taylor is looking to prove once again why she is one of the greatest female boxers of all time. Here is how boxing insiders saw the fight playing out.
“Katie Taylor is the better fighter. Amanda can beat her, but she won’t. You can’t teach an old dog new tricks,” Claressa Maria Shields said.
“I’m going to go with Katie on points,” Hannah Elizabeth Rankin said.
“Katie’s movement and ability to handle pressure are going to be the difference again. She’ll outbox Amanda,” Laila Amaria Ali said.
“I will always back Katie Taylor. I feel Taylor has had better performances and against better standard of opponents,” Skye Brittany Nicolson said.
“Katie’s ability to adapt and control the pace is what makes her special. I think she’ll find a way to win again,” Mikaela Joslin Mayer said.
“Amanda’s got that fire and power. If she catches Katie clean, it could be over,” Alycia Nicole Baumgardner said.
“If I had to bet my house on it then I’d probably have to go with Serrano, but I’ll be rooting for Katie Taylor because she’s an icon,” Galal Yafai said.
“I am going with Taylor – we are in the same squad,” Regis Prograis said.
“Katie’s fundamentals and ring IQ are top-tier. She’ll keep Amanda at bay and win on points,” Andre Michael Ward said.
“But if Katie sticks to a sharp stick-and-move game plan, this fight could actually be more manageable for her than the first two,” Ricardo Lucas Ramos said.
“I might be going with heart but I think Taylor wins a close points decision, maybe even a controversial one,” Anthony Crolla said.
“I obviously want to back Taylor. I hope the fights she had with Chantelle Cameron haven’t taken too much out of her at this stage of her career,” Lawrence Okolie said.
