Former world champions Regis Prograis and Jo Jo Diaz will square off on August 2nd, as we preview this upcoming fight.

For Prograis, the bout represents a chance to reestablish himself in the junior welterweight division. The 35-year-old is looking to bounce back after consecutive decision losses to Devin Haney and Jack Catterall—fights in which he was knocked down three times collectively. His last victory came in 2023 via a narrow and disputed split decision over Danielito Zorrilla.

Meanwhile, Diaz is aiming to revive his career. He has gone 2-6 over the past four years, with victories coming only against Jerry Perez and Jorge Luis Valencia Diaz. Diaz has struggled with consistency, losing to Oscar Duarte and Abraham Montoya before bouncing back with a win against Jorge Luis Valencia Diaz in his last bout.

Pre-Fight

“It’s been great. This camp has been really good. It’s been fun. He looks like himself. The last few camps were a little bit off. He had a lot of stuff going on, but he seems like he’s having fun and it’s going to be a blast in there. I actually like him fighting away from home better than I do at home. When he’s away he’s way more relaxed than he is at home.

“He’s got a lot of pressure at home. “It’s not that he can’t perform at home, but there’s just a lot more going on. Everybody’s calling him. Everybody’s trying to get stuff from him, but here we don’t have that pressure. The pressure’s all on Catterall on Saturday night,” Bobby Benton (Prograis’ coach) said
