World Boxing Association (WBA) lightweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis was arrested early Friday morning in South Florida. According to Andy Slater of FOX Sports 640, Davis is accused of hitting his ex-girlfriend in the back of the head and slapping her.

Al Butler of UPI reported that Davis was arrested on battery-domestic violence charges and booked into Miami’s Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center at 3:35 a.m. ET. Davis, 30, has had several run-ins with the law over the years.

He notably spent 44 days in a Baltimore detention center in 2023 for violating the terms of his house arrest. Davis was sentenced to 90 days of home detention after pleading guilty to four counts stemming from a November 2020 crash that injured four people, including a pregnant woman, per Mike Coppinger of ESPN.

Gervonta Davis scheduled for rematch against Lamont Roach Jr.

Davis is scheduled to fight Lamont Roach Jr. in Las Vegas on Aug. 16. Davis (30-0-1) vs. Roach (25-1-2) is a rematch from their March 1 bout in Brooklyn, which went the distance and ended in a majority draw.

There was some controversy surrounding that fight, as Davis took a knee in the ninth round after Roach connected with a jab. However, referee Steve Wilkes did not score the knockdown for Roach. Davis claimed grease from his hair had gotten into his eye, and that was the reason for him falling to a knee. Two of the judges scored the round 10-9 in favor of Davis. Had the knockdown been recorded, Roach could have won the ninth round 10-8.

“If you take a knee and the ref starts counting, it should be a knockdown,” Roach said after the fight. “If that’s a knockdown, I win the fight. I’m not banking on that knockdown to win. I just thought I pulled it out.”

And so, they will run it back next month. Davis looks to remain undefeated in his professional boxing career.

“Lamont is a great fighter,” Davis said. “He got the skills, like I said before, he got punching power. It was a lesson. Hopefully, we can run it back.”
