After months of uncertainty surrounding his promotional future, Richardson Hitchins has officially reunited with Matchroom Boxing. The unbeaten IBF junior welterweight champion announced the news across his social media platforms on Monday a move that solidifies his position as one of boxing’s fastest-rising stars heading into 2026.

“Back together,” Hitchins wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of himself, Matchroom chairman Eddie Hearn, and manager Keith Connolly. “2026 will be a huge year. More millions and mega fights.”

The announcement ends speculation that Richardson Hitchins may be headed toward promotional free agency, which briefly appeared to be the case after his last outing.

A Successful Run With Matchroom and a Brief Rift

Richardson Hitchins (20-0, 8 KOs) originally signed a multi-fight deal with Matchroom Boxing in 2022, and the partnership immediately paid dividends. The Brooklyn native fought frequently. Earned prime TV exposure, and achieved a career milestone when he traveled to Puerto Rico and defeated Liam Paro to capture the IBF junior welterweight title.

Matchroom then positioned him as a headliner at Madison Square Garden’s Theater on June 14, where Hitchins dominated George Kambosos Jr. en route to an eighth-round stoppage the biggest statement win of his career.

However, his post-fight comments about exploring free agency drew the ire of Hearn, who felt blindsided after delivering Hitchins multiple high-profile opportunities. The champion’s future with Matchroom quickly became uncertain.

Now, with the partnership restored, both sides seem fully aligned heading into a pivotal next chapter.

Hitchins Set for First Quarter Return in 2026

Richardson Hitchins confirmed he will return to the ring in the first quarter of 2026. Though an opponent has yet to be finalized. With Matchroom’s backing and the IBF title in hand, he enters the new year with momentum and leverage.

At 28, Hitchins has emerged as one of the most polished technicians in the 140-pound division, and he appears poised to push for unification opportunities or marquee names at junior welterweight.

For Matchroom, the reunion adds stability to their U.S. roster at a time when several major contenders and champions are testing free agency or bouncing between platforms.

For Hitchins, it’s a renewed step toward the “mega fights” he believes await him.
