Ryan Garcia Compares Boxing To ‘WWE’ After The Jake Paul vs Gervonta Davis Announcement

If there is one fight that has gotten boxing aficionados at their wits end, it will be the Jake Paul (12-1, 7 KOs) vs. Gervonta Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs) showdown that is set to take place on November 14. With the gargantuan criticism revolving around the feasibility of the fight, Davis’ former opponent, Ryan Garcia, finds the very idea of the fight “disgraceful”.

Posting on social media, Garcia dished out a volley of tweets lashing out at the matchup and even highlighting the apparent degradation of the sport of boxing.

“Boxing is officially the WWE,’’ he said. “This just proves that the new blueprint is get popular be a decent fighter. Pick fights to win that gives you advantage and continue to rack in money. Integrity of the sport is getting ruined every day. If you are a up and coming fighter I’d just focused on strictly building your name.’’

Garcia, however, is unsure about the possibility of the fight happening, especially owing to their weight difference. The beef between Garcia and Davis started in April 2023, when he suffered the first loss of his professional career to Tank. And there is no denying that his career has been on a downward spiral since.

However, his lack of confidence in this matchup certainly has a bit of meat in its bones, literally. As a 200-pound cruiserweight, Paul is 65 pounds heavier than Davis. Determining a feasible fight weight for both fighters will be challenging at the very least.

And with this mountain in front of the duo, Garcia finds little to no possibility of the fight happening.

“I strongly doubt this happens, no way Gervonta accepted 195 lbs. Gervonta is already small naturally, and you really think he will decide to balloon up to 195 lbs. You’ve got to be delusional to think this is going to happen,” he wrote.

“He’s Going To Have To Come Through”

However, it should be mentioned that Garcia had eyed a fight against Paul a few months prior. Given that he is at a similar weight to Davis, it is surprising that he finds the prospect of Davis vs Paul an impossible one.

“So he’s going to have to come through me sooner or later,’’ Garcia told USA Today in April. “I know he doesn’t want to, though, because I’m going to be firing on him. He knows I got those punches on me. So I think that once he’s done fighting these old men and he is ready for a real fight, he could come see me.’’
