Ryan Garcia Goes Off On Oscar De La Hoya….Again

The rift between Ryan Garcia and Oscar De La Hoya continues to widen, as the 26 year old former interim champion has publicly criticized his promoter and reiterated plans to leave Golden Boy Promotions after one more fight.

Garcia (24-2, 20 KOs) opened up last week to The Ring about the deteriorating relationship with De La Hoya, citing a recent “terrible” fight offer and conflicting visions for his career path as reasons behind the ongoing feud. According to Garcia, he plans to fight once more under the Golden Boy banner before parting ways.

The latest chapter in their fractured relationship unfolded over the weekend, following Garcia’s push for a rematch with WBA welterweight titlist Rolando Romero. Garcia lost a unanimous decision to Romero in May, a performance that saw him knocked down in the second round and largely outboxed throughout the fight.

While Garcia is determined to run it back with Romero, De La Hoya has made it clear he has other plans. Speaking to DAZN on Saturday, De La Hoya downplayed the idea of a rematch, calling their first bout “dull” and suggesting Garcia should instead pursue a bigger name namely Teofimo Lopez.

“When you’re a promoter and you’re trying to make rematches, it’s because people want to see it,” De La Hoya said. “The first fight wasn’t that entertaining.”

Oscar set Ryan off…again

Garcia didn’t take kindly to the remarks. On Sunday, he responded by posting a video on social media appearing to show himself on the phone with De La Hoya, issuing a direct and dismissive message:

“Don’t ever hit me up unless you have a $20 million deal for me, OK, Oscar? Don’t ever call me if you don’t have a $20 million fight. You understand?”

Garcia told The Ring that Golden Boy recently offered him “the worst offer you can ever imagine” for his next bout, though no specific details were disclosed.

Adding to the complications, Garcia recently underwent surgery on his right hand the second such procedure in four years  following the Romero fight. Despite the injury, he is reportedly targeting a return to the ring by December, regardless of whether a Romero rematch materializes.

As the tension between fighter and promoter plays out publicly, the future of Garcia’s career and his final fight under the Golden Boy banner remains uncertain. One thing is clear: the partnership that once promised superstardom is now hanging by a thread
