Ryan Garcia has been out of the ring since his appearance on The Ring’s Times Square card, and now boasts a record of 24-2.
Ryan Garcia suffered his first loss in 2023 when he was stopped with a debilitating body shot at the hands of Gervonta Davis.
Technically, he has had just one win since, over Oscar Duarte, though many will remember his performance over Devin Haney more than the result’s overruling.
In his latest fight, though, which took place over a year after his win over Haney, Garcia was dropped and outpointed by Rolly Romero.
Despite his win over Garcia, it seems Romero has nothing but high praise for his former foe.
In an interview with FightHype TV, Romero was asked about his opinions on Jake Paul.
Romero, who scored an awful stoppage over Ismael Barroso, praised Paul, claiming he works harder than many world champions, but asserted that he is not taken seriously for the same reason Garcia isn’t by many – simply because of their popularity on social media.
“Ryan beats everybody at welterweight, but they all look at him like he’s this pretty boy. Ryan beats everybody at welterweight. Everybody. Everybody.”
He suggested Garcia would beat Devin Haney, Brian Norman Jr., Manny Pacquiao, and Mario Barrios, but said he doesn’t get credit as a real fighter because of his public image.
“They wanna discredit him because he’s a pretty boy or because he posts on Instagram. […] Everyone expects boxers to be like this one, like a complete uptight dude, like all anger, like it’s not like that, man.”
Romero is now 17-2 after his win over Garcia, having been beaten by Isaac Cruz and Tank.
Pacquiao is eyeing Romero for his next fight, too, as Rolly was recently elevated to world champion after Jaron Ennis moved up in weight.
Jeff Horn believes Pacquiao could beat Romero.
One of Pacquiao’s biggest ever fights came against Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Albeit a few years later than everyone had hoped, the fight broke viewing records and saw Mayweather pick up a unanimous decision win over Pacquiao as he neared the end of his career.
Mayweather’s uncle suggested Pacquiao vs Romero is the logical next fight to make, and believes Pac-Man could beat the younger man.
Though Pacquiao couldn’t get past Barrios, many seem to believe he stands a chance against Romero, though the fight has not been officially made yet.
