Ryan Garcia says he is moving on from Golden Boy Promotions once his contract is up with them after his next fight.
Garcia accused Oscar De La Hoya of disrespect, saying he gave him the worst offer after his Rolando Romero defeat. Garcia is at a crossroads in his career, having lost his last fight to Romero. Ryan failed to produce the performance he had shown in the Devin Haney fight, as he lost a unanimous decision.
That performance also followed the Haney fight, which became a no-contest as Ryan failed VADA tests for Ostarine in the aftermath, overturning his majority decision win. Reports indicate that Garcia is in talks to face Romero next in a rematch. Ryan has the chance of redemption, given that Romero has been elevated to the WBA Welterweight Champion. Once Jaron Ennis moved up to 154, he vacated the belt, meaning that Rolly became the full champion as he had secured the interim title after the Ryan win.
This naturally raises questions over where Ryan can go next. He has the stardom to be a free agent and make his own moves. The Gervonta Davis and Devin Haney fights showed that. Garcia earned a reported $30 million for the Davis fight, while pocketing $50 million from the Haney fight. Garcia has a massive social media following, with over 10 million followers on Instagram and over a million on X, showing he has the brand.
Alternatively, Garcia could work with promoters on a fight-by-fight basis. Canelo Alvarez has demonstrated that, having switched from DAZN to PBC and Golden Boy throughout his career, up to his current deal with the Saudis. Garcia could link up with DAZN, where the Haney rematch could be made, while there is also the Conor Benn and Shakur Stevenson bouts.
Equally, Top Rank could become a possibility. Their deal with ESPN has come to an end, as Top Rank makes its next move. They could have the backing to support a major star like Garcia with a new deal, provided they can offer him the fights that he wants. However, it remains to be seen whether Ryan could make his mark with Bob Arum. Either way, Garcia’s time with Golden Boy appears to be up.
“After the Romero fight, they gave me the worst offer you can ever imagine. Oscar has no trust or faith in me. Great fighters lose, and they come back, rebuild, and get better. Look at all the times he lost and came back. Oscar doesn’t respect me. I don’t think he ever thought I was a good fighter. I have one more fight left with him, and that’s it. I want to move on. I have the star power, unlike others, and I am coming back with a vengeance. I am a great fighter and I can bounce back,” Garcia said
