Shakur Stevenson (23-0, 11 KOs) has a message for rapper Ma$e amid their ongoing feud. Stevenson, who is currently gearing up for a showdown against William Zepeda (33-0, 27 KOs), isn’t too happy with Ma$e’s words or his disrespect towards defensive boxers. And he isn’t going to let people who “make a living off of trolling people” have an impact on his life.
Stevenson was recently a guest on the latest episode of ‘The Breakfast Club’ podcast, hosted by DJ Envy, Jess Hilarious, and Charlamagne Tha God. In conversation, Jess shed light on the fact that Ma$e expressed his disinterest in watching Stevenson fight. In fact, he apparently claimed that Stevenson would not fight the way he used to, since he was hanging around with Terence Crawford and Andre Ward .
“I can’t really take some of these guys too serious because it’s like they make a living off of trolling people. Trolling people, like trolling, is what they do on a regular basis, even before when I kinda reacted to them. I don’t feel the same way now,” Stevenson responded. He mentioned that he understands the business aspect of trolling and is least concerned about it. He also mentioned that he’d make his money while they remain irrelevant.
Charlamagne highlighted that these were the same things that people used to say about a fighter like Floyd Mayweather. He added that there was an acute lack of respect for defensive fighters, which was evident from Ma$e’s comments about Ward.
“I think it’s a stigma on black fighters who outbox people. But like Lomachenko or … can go outbox the same people, then you hear no boring things on them,” he said while adding that he’s careful to not let it get to his head. “It’s like you gotta tame yourself, you gotta calm down, relax, and not look for the knockout.”
This feud began last year when Cam’ron and Ma$e Stevenson’s world title fight against Artem Harutyunyan, calling the bout boring. These words lit a spark that progressed into a social media war of words. During this time, J. Prince came forward in Stevenson’s defense, stating that the PPV numbers certainly don’t lie.
“NUMBERS DON’T LIE, HATERS DO. Let the haters say that he’s boring and nobody wants to watch him. Sorry to tell you it’s just a select few of you haters,” he wrote on Instagram. “I’m Shakur’s manager, and I handle all his business outside of the ring. In other words, Cam and Mase, I will fade all his shots and take all bets.”
