Shane Mosley Set to Fight in Boxing Again After Eight Years

Shane Mosley is an American former professional boxer who is scheduled to make a comeback in the boxing ring. However, this is eight years after he left the box. On September 28, he will fight Bob Kofroth in a Light-Heavyweight fight in a celebrity boxing event. The card also features Kimbo Slice Jr. taking on Drew Mournet. This will mark his first fight since 2016 when he lost to David Avanesyan in a unanimous decision. 

A Career Full of Achievements

Though his final fight ended in defeat, Shane Mosley‘s career was full of distinctive achievements. He held titles in three weight divisions: 135, 147, and 154 pounds. He also became the two-time lineal champion at 147 and repeated the same at 154 lbs. He has faced top fighters such as Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao, and Canelo Alvarez.

His best performance against this group was during the fight with Mayweather where Shane Mosley stunned the then-unbeaten Mayweather, in the first few rounds and made him lose balance. Although Mayweather was able to come back and score the win, Shane Mosley’s display against him is among the highlights of his career.

So as much as Shane Mosley did not beat Mayweather, Pacquiao, or Canelo, he had wins over other top-notch opponents. He had some of his greatest triumphs against opponents such as Oscar De La Hoya, Antonio Margarito, and Fernando Vargas. These wins enhanced his position as one of the most gifted fighters in the current boxing era.

Still, it is necessary to note that his career was full of scandals. He took a PED scandal that is a disgrace to him and athletes all around the world. When the banned substances were detected in his system, for instance, Victor Conte who was well known for his involvement in steroid distribution told everybody that he had offered his PEDs.

Victor Conte has been caught up in the scandal which made him have legal problems that would leave him under house arrest but since been a vocal supporter of clean sports, using his SNAC program partnering with VADA (Voluntary Anti-Doping Association) to combat drug use in boxing. Shane Mosley’s Return: A Risky Comeback?

After he retired from boxing, he has remained involved with the sport in one way or the other. He has been seen conditioning fighters such as Jake Paul and in addition to that engage in media duties also. Many are now questioning the wisdom of this decision, considering that he is 53 years old.

The last point is that he is long in the tooth, and people doubt his ability to protect himself.
