Following the Times Square card on May 2, many criticised the bouts and lack of action. This low-action card was then followed up with a dire main event between Canelo and Scull on May 3, and Turki Alalshikh has now addressed those criticisms and warned those fighting on his future cards. In response to this warning, Teofimo Lopez spoke to Fight Hub TV and shared his honest reaction to what Alalshikh wants.
Following the mass criticism regarding the action on recent cards, Alalshikh posted via his X account: “From this point on, I don’t want to see any more Tom and Jerry-type boxing matches where one fighter is running around the ring and the other is chasing him. We can longer support these kind of fights with Riyadh Season and The Ring. We want to support fighters who leave it all in the ring and fight with heart and pride!”
Any low-action fights will clearly not be tolerated, and Lopez has had his say on the warning from Alalshikh: “There’s boxing, and then there’s running. I guess what he is trying to say in those words is, he just wants guys to box but throw punches in the middle of it. So be active. You gotta be offensive at the same time. You can’t win fights just moving around and having a low punch count.
“You know? Same thing that happened to (William) Scull against Canelo. That’s not going to please the people, and it’snot going to show his (H.E) country and his government and his prince and king this is why were here to support the sport. You know? So it’s our part as well and our duty to do what he would like,” added Lopez.
