Terence Crawford Vacates The Belt
Sipa USA

Terence Crawford has informed the WBA that he’s vacating his welterweight title and keeping his recently won 154-lb belt with the organization. With Crawford’s decision to vacate means WBA ‘regular’ 147-lb champion Eimantas Stanionis is the champion full time now.

There’s no fights at 147 that really attract Crawford at all, the only notable fighter in the division is Boots Ennis and he’s not big enough of a draw. That fight offers little reward for Crawford to go consider that fight. In all honesty there’s really nothing left for Terence Crawford at 147, the biggest fight to be made has already taken place and he came away with all of the spoils from it.

154 and up only

Junior middleweight is full of tougher challenges at this point for Crawford. The most notable fighter in the division is the 6’6 champion Sebastian Fundora. That fight could be closer than we think because the WBO just order Fundora to defend the belt against Crawford. That fight would be a very intriguing fight considering how long Fundora’s reach is. I’m sure that would take 6 rounds for Crawford to figure out how to adjust to the tall fighter.

The fight that Crawford is really is still trying to hold out hope on is the Canelo Alvarez fight. That’s where his heart is at, he’s doing everything that he can to try to attract the fight. He’s on Canelo’s time though and that fight will only happen is Canelo wants it to happen. Canelo will get no credibility by beating up a smaller man but he’ll get all the heat for losing to him. So it’s truly a no win situation for Canelo and he understands that so fingers cross for any fan holding out hope for this fight to actually happen.
