Jaron “Boots” Ennis (32-0, 29 KOs) will defend his IBF welterweight crown against Karen Chukhadzhian (24-2, 13 KOs) at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Saturday, November 9. The entire Matchroom Boxing card will be shown live on DAZN in over 200 countries across the globe. If “Boots” comes through this IBF defence as expected, Eddie Hearn has revealed to Oscar Bevis at The Stomping Ground Ennis is aiming for unification fights in 2025, and in that same interview, the Matchroom Sport chairman has spoken about what it would take to make “Boots” vs. Terence “Bud” Crawford.
Ennis became the IBF champ after Crawford refused a mandatory defence against the Philadelphia native, opting to move up a division and face Israil Madrimov. Rumours of a fight between “Bud” and “Boots” have never gone away, with Ennis making it clear he wants to rule in multiple divisions, even up to 168lbs.
Addressing the possibility of an Ennis-Crawford fight, Hearn spoke about this to The Stomping Ground and said: “[We] know Crawford’s not going to fight him.” He continued: “The only way Crawford is going to fight Boots is if he gets paid a s—t-load of money.”
Talking about the possibility of the fight, he said: “At the moment, the fight’s not big enough for the amount of money that Terence wants for that fight. Jaron would fight Crawford in a heartbeat. It’s a great fight.”
Despite the fight not looking likely in the near future, Hearn did tease that it could happen in the future, with His Excellency Turki Alalshikh involved: “You will see that fight if Terence stays around, because sooner or later, Jaron is going to move to 154, and when you do, you have to chase Terence Crawford,” Hearn added.
Hearn added: “Let’s see what happens, but I would love His Excellency to make that fight, and he’s the kind of person that could make that fight [at the] back end of 2025.”
