Conor Benn (23-0, 14 KOs) is undoubtedly the gift that gives on giving.
Chris Eubank Jr. (34-3, 25 KOs) recently showcased an impressive performance against Polish boxer Kazmil Szeremeta (25-3-2, 8 KOs), a victory that also won him the vacant IBO middleweight title. On the other hand, Benn has long called out for a fight against Eubank, especially after their fight in 2022 failed to reach fruition. He sure didn’t waste any time in kicking up a storm after the fight.
Eubank dished out two knockdowns against Szeremeta during the first and sixth rounds of the fight. This, in turn, led to the fight being stopped in round seven.
Following the stoppage, Benn rushed to the ring, shoved Eubank, and called him out for the fight. What followed was a verbal tussle, which just might have paved the way for a potential fight. “This is the fight everyone wants to see; I like that. I want you next,” Eubank said. Benn was not one to stand down during a verbal altercation. Boxing’s crown prince of controversy proceeded to taunt ‘Next Gen’ in an attempt to make the fight official.
“I’m so scared. You think after that performance you think I’m worried. I’ll jump up two weight divisions!” he said. Security had to step in to physically separate both fighters.
It now looks like Benn’s actions have accelerated the work for a future fight between the duo. Talking to reporters after the fight, Eubank mentioned that he was eyeing Benn as his next opponent.
“Conor Benn is next on the hit list. I wanna squash this kid, man. I wanna get him out of boxing. Turki wants that fight. So, the fight’s gonna happen,” he said. “As long as he gets his license back, the fight’s next. I just wanna get this guy out of boxing. I want to beat him so badly that he doesn’t want to ever fight again. This sport has no place for cheats.”
Turki Alalshikh even announced a targeted date for their fight. He revealed that he wishes to have Eubank vs. Benn as a part of the fight card for The Stomping Ground in May 2025.
