Muhammad Ali wasn’t quite as amazing as another heavyweight superstar, according to a legendary coach.
In boxing history, perhaps nobody has made a bigger impact than ‘The Louisville Lip’.
Not only did Ali get revenge on Alvin Lewis, who’d dropped him in sparring, but he also cemented his status as the best talker the sport has ever seen.
However, despite this, one boxing aficionado favors another Hall of Famer as the greatest heavyweight in history.
WOW: Muhammad Ali finished foe, whose wife bizarrely said, ‘I don’t mind if he beats my husband’
In one of the biggest upsets in boxing history, Muhammad Ali knocked out George Foreman during The Rumble in the Jungle.
However, despite this, Emanuel Steward still rated the Texan as the number one the division has ever seen.
In an interview with Boxing24/7, he said: “George Foreman may be the most amazing, definitely heavyweight, that I ever saw in my lifetime.
“I think that what a lot of people don’t realize is George Foreman was an extremely smart fighter in the ring, too.
“The first George Foreman, right after the Olympics, was very aggressive, threw punches relentlessly, had tremendous knockout power in both hands, but still was such a smart fighter that he gradually burnt guys out.
“All of a sudden, he decided to come back and not be such a mean guy, to be a pleasant jollier type of guy, but still, that meanness was still there in the ring, and he changed his style a little bit to be adjusted to his age and not burn up too much energy.
“He would have been a big threat to any heavyweight of any era because of his size and his unbelievable tough mental attitude.”
Regardless of whether Ali was the most skilled heavyweight or not, he was undoubtedly the best on the mic.
The showman had a knack for getting under the skin of everybody he faced inside the squared circle.
During a particularly explosive interview, Ali ended up having a street fight with Joe Frazier.
