Skye Nicolson, the WBC featherweight champion and Tiara Brown clashed at the Qudos Bank Arena. Tiarra Brown walked away with the WBC featherweight belt on a split decision. The scorecards read, 96-94 Nicolson, 96-94 Brown and 97-98 Brown.

The fight was on the undercard and was contested over 10 rounds. The DAZN card was headlined by a welterweight match between former undisputed lightweight champion king George Kambosos Jnr and Indonesia’s Daud Yordan. The event also featured WBA women’s bantamweight rematch between Cherneka Johnson and Nina Hughes.

Tiara Brown, from, Florida, USA, came into this fight with an undefeated record of 18 wins without a loss. Eleven of those wins have come by way of knockout. She was challenging for her first world title.

Nicolson, 29, (12-0, 1 KO), of Queensland, Australia, was fighting at home for the first time in nearly three years. She returned home to defend her world title against mandatory rival Tiara Brown. Skye stepped into the ring with an undefeated record to face her third title defence.

Nicolson faced off with Sarah Mahfoud and won the vacant belt by a unanimous decision, on April 6, 2024, at Fontainebleau Las Vegas. She went ahead to win over Dyana Vargas on July 13, 2024, by unanimous decision in their 10-round contest at Wells Fargo Centre, Philadelphia.

In her last fight before Saturday, she beat Raven Chapman by a unanimous decision on October 12, 2024, in their 10-round contest, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The two boxers who have never met face to face before, had an opportunity to exchange with one another in a virtual meeting prior to their fight. “It means the world to me to fight the WBC belt. That has been my dream since I was a kid,” said Tiara Brown during the Virtual face off which is also on YouTube.

“I think we are gonna have a great fight, our styles are gonna clash well,” said Nicolson during the same virtual meeting.

Both fighters put their best foot forward as they went into the match. The first round started off rather slow as they took time to learn each other’s moves. By the third round, they had increased the tempo with Brown landing a right hand, as Nicolson pulled away.

In the fourth round, Nicolson landed a left even as Brown pushed forward while at the same time trying to avoid the blows.

Things heated up in the sixth round as the fight piked up speed, leading the two to engage in a firefight. The seventh and the eighth round seemed to favour Brown more as she kept pushing forward for power shots. In the final round both ladies gave their best, throwing as many jabs as possible.

At the sound of the bell, both fighters were lifted into the air by their trainers. Tiara Brown burst into tears of joy as Skye Nicolson was left to deal with her loss. All in all, their fans were entertained, and Tiara gets to live her dream of wearing the featherweight belt.
