Tim Tszyu is back!

The former WBO junior middleweight champion Tszyu (25-2, 18 KOs) returned triumphantly as he scored a fourth-round TKO over Joey Spencer (19-2, 11 KOs) in Newcastle, Australia on Prime Video. After two consecutive losses, Tszyu is back in the win column as a potential showdown with Keith Thurman looms for July.

The opening round was nothing spectacular as both fighters were patient and figuring out their distances. On two occasions, Spencer leaped in with a left hook and saw success, while Tszyu kept the high guard and countered when it made sense.

Things picked up in the second round for Tszyu as he began cutting the distance and working in his uppercuts. Spencer was hopping in and out while switching stances to confuse Tszyu. In the third round, Tszyu put a ton of pressure on Spencer and changed the levels of his offense, which opened things up for him. Tszyu would land a left stab jab and follow it up with a straight right hand. Towards the end of the round, Spencer landed a left hook that got Tszyu’s attention as he took a few steps back.

In the fourth round, Tszyu sensed that the end was near as he was unloading six and seven punch combinations, with Spencer having no answer. The referee was looking to stop it and gave Spencer every chance to fight out of it, but Spencer’s Dad threw in the towel to stop the fight. Tszyu scores a TKO victory in front of family and friends, who all felt relieved when Tszyu’s hand was raised in victory.

Undercard Results

Heavyweight Liam Talivaa (7-1, 3 KOs) scored a fifth-round knockout over Brandon Grach (3-1, 2 KOs), who was the co-main in Australia. It was a fun fight as they went blow for blow, but at the heavyweight level, it lasted only so long. Talivaa got his revenge from being knocked out by Grach in their first fight. Shawn Porter, who was on commentary, was calling for a trilogy.

Middleweight Endry Saavedra (17-1-1, 14 KOs) scored an eighth-round TKO over Mikkel Nielsen (13-3, 5 KOs) in a fight that had less entertainment value than the Prime Video opener. Both men were cut and bloody, but Saavedra was the fresher man, and he was able to finish the job late in the fight.

Junior middleweight Koen Mazoudier (13-4-1, 5 KOs) scored a tough unanimous decision over Dan Hill (7-2, 3 KOs) to kick off the Prime Video telecast from Australia. The judges saw this one 98-91, 100-89, and 99-90 for Mazoudier, who was in a tough, all-out action brawl that made it to the final bell. Although Hill lost, he showed tremendous heart and determination as he kept coming forward even though Mazoudier was having his way.
