Today, boxing world title fights take place around the globe and are more accessible to watch than ever before. Sometimes, championship bouts do not receive as much attention and go underreported. Big Fight Weekend commits to writing about boxing news, previews, and recaps. As such, the site now has a recurring segment on championship bouts – from around the world from the past week.
The focus of these pieces will be on clashes ranging from atomweight to heavyweight that had the WBA, WBC, IBF, and/or WBO titles on the line. The latest edition of “Title Fights From Around the World” consists of just one recap. In Denmark, a unified bantamweight champion delivered another dominating performance.
Dina Thorslund (22-0, 9 KOs) won a unanimous decision against Seren Çetin (11-1, 7 KOs) to remain the unified bantamweight champion.
The bout was on a Team Palle show at the Royal Arena in Copenhagen, Denmark. Boxing fans could catch the action live on Fight Sports Max. With the victory, Thorslund successfully defended her WBC and WBO titles. Initially set to take place in February this year – it was pushed to May 25 due to a freshly stitched cut by Çetin’s left eye. Thorslund wound up facing Mary Romero instead, defeating her via eighth-round technical knockout.
The bout was almost entirely one-sided from the opening bell. While Çetin came out looking to be in a shootout, Thorslund was more than willing to engage with that style. Power punches to the head from the Dane caused Çetin to back down, and an uppercut even stunned her towards the end of the first.
Between the two, Thorslund proved that she was simply the better fighter. Even when Thorslund eased off in round eight, Çetin couldn’t capitalize. The final scorecards read 100-90 (x2) and 99-91 for the defending champion.
