Troy Nash Jr is now a pro.
Yet, he has opted to turn pro in his hometown area of Boulder, Colorado, at the Boulder Theater on March 9th, 2024. Dawning the moniker ‘The Bank’, Nash Jr., who sports an amateur record of 140-16 is looking to put the division on notice.
“We wanted everyone who supported my son to be able to see his professional debut,” said Troy Nash Sr., the father and coach of Nash Jr. “We have offers from major promoters, but we want to make sure we don’t forget the people we have supported us from the beginning. We are taking it as a fight-by-fight basis right now.”
Nash Jr. will turn pro at featherweight and be much lighter than he was as an amateur. He is currently ranked number one in the USA as a lightweight. He has defeated thirty nationally ranked number-one fighters. A fifteen-time national champion, boasting a national record of 58-7. Nash Jr. hoped to be an Olympian but got a bronze at the Olympic Trials, falling short of Vershaun Lee.
Before that, in Nash Jr.’s first elite tournament, he won it. The tournament had fifty-six fighters in the bracket. No small feat for a fighter who barely turned the legal age to compete in that division.
“My son is special,” said Nash Sr. “He can learn so quickly and adapt in the ring. He was an amazing amateur, but he always had a pro style. We were adjusting fast in the amateurs, but in the pros, we get a lot more time. You are going to see the birth of a boxing superstar.”
Yet, a family affair makes the Nash family so unique. Nash Jr. has five sisters. Everyone from his uncles, mother, grandmother, aunties, and father are involved in his training. From meal prep to ensuring he goes where he needs to be, the Nash family might be a boxing family. One so much so that every member has an opinion on every fighter, and everybody knows how to keep a proper distance while throwing punches.
Nash Jr is the fighting pride of a fighting family. A family that lives and breathes the fight game. For all we know, the Nash family lineage could be like the Mayweather lineage in twenty years.
Nash Sr. didn’t mix words when he predicted a viral moment for his son.
“Look, we are going to go out there and not look for the knockout. Let’s be honest, we are going to try to put this guy on the highlight reel. I am talking about we are going to do some sweet [expletive] to him. We want people to take notice of this performance and the fans to leave happy. We are training to give people an entertaining knockout.”
