Dalton Smith (18-0, 13 KOs) was in the ring to face Mathieu Germain (26-3-1, 11 KOs) at the Park Community Arena, in Sheffield, England on Saturday night of 19th April 2025.
The night ended in Smith’s favor after a unanimous decision with scores of 117-107, 119-105,119-105 from the judges.
Even though Mathieu Germain got floored as early as the second round of the contest, the Canadian managed to pull through all the rounds to avoid a loss by KO or TKO. Mathieu Germain moved around a lot in the ring, but this did not stop Dalton Smith from controlling the fight.
It was visibly clear the difference in size between the two boxers, and this only meant that Germain was at a disadvantage. Smith used this to his advantage and was even able to floor his opponent three times during the contest.
Germain threw punches of his own, but they lacked the power or size to hurt his much bigger opponent, Smith. So, he spent most of the fight moving around the ring to evade the heavy shots coming from Smith.
When it got to the 12th round, Smith got frustrated with Germain’s tactics of running around the ring because it was preventing him from landing the finishing blow that he wanted. He tried to rally the crowd around the Arena to woe Germain into staying still so that he could land some punches, but Germain did not fall for the trap.
It was a good opportunity for Germain, but the question goes to Matchroom Boxing for picking an opponent who looked like they did not belong in the same weight class. Smith might have needed an opponent who would go all 12 rounds with him, but this did not look like a good challenge for the boxer.
