Vergil Ortiz Stops Erickson Lubin In Two Rounds

Vergil Ortiz Jr., the WBC Interim Heavyweight Champion, stopped Erickson Lubin in just two rounds, as you can see how the fight played out live.

The Ring’s No. 1 ranked fighter at 154 pounds, Ortiz, had been forced to adapt after two consecutive grueling decisions: Ortiz won the WBC Interim belt against Serhii Bohachuk last August, but the fight was a back-and-forth thriller that saw Ortiz get off the canvas before securing the majority decision. He followed that with a unanimous decision victory over Israil Madrimov in February.

Lubin, the IBF’s No. 1-ranked contender, could have pursued the IBF route by targeting champion Bakhram Murtazaliev, but instead opted for the challenge that Ortiz provides. Lubin had successfully rebuilt his career since his loss to Sebastian Fundora, securing three straight victories over top opponents: Luis Arias, Jesus Ramos Jr., and Ardreal Holmes Jr. However, Ortiz was simply too good.
