In the lead-up to his highly anticipated fight against Vasiliy Lomachenko, undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney referred to his next opponent as a dirty fighter during a press conference on Tuesday.
The two lightweights exchanged words in a hallway, where Haney didn’t mince words against Lomachenko, saying the Ukrainian boxer throws unwarranted punches in his fights.

Haney, who will defend his undisputed lightweight titles this Saturday, will have another career-defining fight on his hands when he faces Lomachenko, who is a former three-division champion.
With a win, Haney (29-0, 15 KO) would further solidify himself as one of the best undefeated boxers in the world, joining Gervonta Davis and Shakur Stevenson, to name a select few. The 24-year-old is coming off two-straight successful title fights against George Kambosos Jr. in 2022.
"I want to show that I'm levels about this guy," Haney told ESPN on Wednesday. "Whether it's a knockout or whether it's just a beating, I look to go in there and impose my will on him."
Adding another win to his unblemished record would not only solidify Haney’s stock but also open doors to potential high-profile fights with Davis, Stevenson and Ryan Garcia. These matchups would be exciting for fans and result in major financial rewards for Haney.
The 35-year-old Lomachenko will try to keep his name in the conversation as one of the best fighters in boxing. After losing a trio of lightweight titles to Teofimo Lopez in October 2020, Lomachenko (17-2, 11 KO) has won three-straight bouts and is looking to dethrone the undefeated Haney.
Haney and Lomachenko will settle their differences at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on May 20 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
